Getting Lost in the Evidence? Tools to Strengthen Evidence-Informed Decision-making

The Ontario Public Health Association and the Public Health Agency of Canada partnered to offer a FREE workshop to introduce participants to a systematic evidence-informed decision-making process. Participants learned how to apply field-tested tools to search for and apply accessible, credible and relevant sources of evidence, including the Canadian Best Practices Portal among others. Participants gained knowledge, skills and access to practical tools to help them strengthen public health programs and policies.

Getting Lost in the Evidence: Part 2 – Collecting, Synthesizing & Applying Evidence in Practice

After a short review of the material presented in Part 1, this fireside chat uses a case example format to illustrate the steps and skills involved in collecting, synthesizing and applying evidence to inform program decision-making. Use of the guidelines and worksheets of the TEIP Evidence Tool is demonstrated.

Northern Ontario Dietetic Internship Program (NODIP) Webinar - December 2009

Participants learned how to apply practical, user-friendly tools to create useful, relevant and realistic program evaluations which strengthen practice and outcomes. A relevant case example illustrated the concepts discussed.

Getting Lost in the Evidence? Building Organizational Capacity for Evidence-Informed Practice
Part 1: Developing an Evidence Question and Search Strategy -
November 2009

The Fireside Chat uses a case study format to walk through the first two steps of the TEIP Program Evidence Tool: (1) Define the Evidence Question and (2) Develop a Search Strategy.  Tips, resources and additional supports are shared to facilitate application of skills.

Workshop featured presentations from five TEIP communities followed by a panel discussion. Content addressed::

  • How to strengthen partnerships between health promotion and clinical practitioners
  • Incorporating multiple forms of evidence (including 'Best' and 'Promising' Practices) into their community-based prevention programs
  • Developing a healthy evaluation culture within their partnerships to promote the generation of practice-based evidence

TEIP Logic Model and Evaluation Indicator Workshop - February 2006
